The Chinese F4, also known as the Shenyang J-15, is a fighter jet developed by China's Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC) for the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). The aircraft is based on the Russian Sukhoi Su-33 and is the first domestically developed carrier-based fighter jet in China. It entered service with the PLAN in 2013 and is currently China's primary fighter jet for its aircraft carriers.
The F4 has a length of 22.2 meters, a wingspan of 14.7 meters, and a maximum takeoff weight of 33,000 kg. It is powered by two Shenyang WS-10A afterburning turbofan engines, which provide a maximum speed of Mach 2.4 and a range of 3,500 km. The F4 is armed with a variety of missiles and bombs, including air-to-air missiles, air-to-surface missiles, and anti-ship missiles.
The development of the F4 has faced several challenges due to its complex design and the lack of experience in carrier-based aircraft development in China. Despite these challenges, the F4 has proven to be a capable fighter jet, and its deployment has increased China's military capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region.
